A short video of Gourock from the air
I set off on my bike with no rush, just a quiet determination and the need to move forward. My route took me through South Street in Greenock, the familiar rhythm of the road beneath my wheels grounding me as I climbed steadily uphill along Newton Street and Lyle Road.
The incline was steep, but I welcomed the burn in my legs—it meant I was alive, engaged, fully present. The weather was nothing short of glorious: a cobalt blue sky stretched endlessly above me, unbroken except for the faintest wisps of cloud, and the sunlight bathed everything in a golden clarity that made even the ordinary feel extraordinary.
As I reached the edge of the Gourock Golf Club, I slowed to take in the view—and it truly took my breath away. Below me lay the sweep of Battery Park and the gentle curve of Cardwell Bay, the Clyde River gleaming like a silver ribbon under the sun. Beyond it, the Holy Loch and Loch Long shimmered in the distance, framed by the shadowed strength of the mountain chain that marked the horizon. It was one of those moments where time seems to stand still. I felt small and vast at once, humbled by the beauty of the world yet elevated by the simple act of reaching this place. It reminded me that sometimes the greatest rewards come not just from the destination, but from the effort, the journey, and the willingness to look up and take it all in.
