Man, the Destroyer

Man, the Destroyer

Sometimes, I think that man is inherently evil.

We consider ourselves superior to all other creatures on Earth.

We discriminate on the basis of colour, gender, and religion.

We oppress one another; we rape, starve, and kill. We wage endless wars and commit genocide for greed and power.

Our revolutions drown in bloodshed. Our religions preach peace, yet we kill in God’s name.

We hunt and slaughter animals. We wipe out forests and plunder the land. We poison the air, the soil, the rivers, and the sea.

We search for life on other planets, yet we destroy life on our own.

For the first time in human history, we not only possess the technology to destroy our planet—we also have the will to do it, and we may well succeed.

History has shown, time and again, that human cruelty is the norm, not the exception, and that civilisation itself gives rise to savagery.
